A Herrin man is now volunteering his time to help students at Southeastern Illinois College. Paul McHargue will help the College's archery team with basic bow and recurve archery.

Alli Armstrong is the Head Archery Coach at SIC and she said McHargue is a very experienced archer.

"He actually went to the World Championship in Robion, France, and he did well there representing Team USA. His daughter, Molly, she is actually a guest shooter for SIC's archery team, and she has won four World Championships in her division. So he has coached her along the way as well." Armstrong said.

His 15 year-old daughter won her first World Championship when she was 10.

Armstrong said McHargue's expertise is a lot different from compound bows, which many people are familiar with for hunting purposes.

"But then you've got your recurve types, and then even your traditional types. It's more of just your stick and string. That's kind of back to the basics bow set up styles and it's a lot different set up than your compound because you've got a lot less equipment that you're working with." she said.

Armstrong said the SIC archery team will attend the Archery Shooters Association's State Championship in Joliet, Illinois this year.
