Starting in July 2019 the state of Illinois will begin administering the Uniform Bar Exam, instead of the Illinois Bar Exam, allowing state attorneys to easily practice in other states.
SIU's Law School Dean Chris Behan says this choice will open new opportunities for the school's students.
Illinois is the 30th state to adopt the Uniform Bar Exam. Behan says that means attorneys can practice in any of those states regardless of where they're tested.
He says if a state has not adopted the Uniform Bar Exam, then students are required to take the specific Bar Exam of that state.
