The Illinois House is set to vote on increasing the minimum wage on Thursday.
Despite concerns from many business owners, the House will consider legislation gradually raising the minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour. The bill includes a tax credit for small businesses to help offset the cost.
Representative Will Guzzardi of Chicago says the increase will be good for the state's economy.
Business owners, like Conn Hospitality Group CEO Karen Conn are critical of the proposal, saying this will cause them to lay off employees and possibly close their doors.
If the House passes the bill, Governor J-B Pritzker says he will quickly sign it into law.
