Rebuild Illinois is distributing grants to fund eleven projects across the state including one in Marion.
Governor JB Pritzker recently announced that $11 million dollars will fund nearly a dozen shovel ready projects in Illinois.
The grant will fuel economic growth by rehabbing vacant buildings to become businesses and provide construction jobs.
The city of Marion will receive just over a million dollars to renovate the building at 602 Tower Square that’s been many businesses over the years.
Chief of Staff Cody Moake says the future plans for the building will include a restaurant with apartments above it.
“This is one of the last pieces to get bought up on the square, most of the buildings are at least under redevelopment at this point, this is kind of the last one, perfect timing, it’s a perfect example of what these grant funds are going to be used for to make a real use out of that building and to make sure its still here hopefully a hundred years from now.”
