The weekly COVID-19 case count from SIU-Carbondale shows another jump in positive tests from last week.
Wednesday's reportshows 57 total cases...up from 31 a week ago. 47 of the 57 cases in the past week are from off-campus students...9 involve on-campus students and there is one faculty or staff member. Cases where individuals are in isolation are considered to be active.
The SIU-C active COVID cases page says numbers reflect cases confirmed by the Jackson County Health Department as of the date of the report and are not cumulative.
The University stresses these numbers may not be all-inclusive since employees and students live in multiple counties that have varying reporting processes, and reporting affiliation with SIU-C is voluntary.
On Tuesday's WSIU In Focus, SIU-C Chancellor Austin Lane mentioned the University is teaming up with SIH and the Jackson County Health Department to provide a walk-up COVID-19 testing site twice a week on campus for all students, faculty and staff, possibly as soon as this month. He said more details will come out soon.
