Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is set to confer medical degrees to 65 students and PhDs to three graduate students this weekend.
Dr. Senait Fisseha is the commencement speaker and recipient of this year's Distinguished Alumna Award.
Dr. Fisseha established a Center for International Reproductive Health Training at the University of Michigan and is presently the director of International Programs at the Susan T. Buffet Foundation, distributing more than $300 million in annual grants to support and transform reproductive health around the world.
Additional awards will be presented, including the 2019 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Leonard Tow Humanism Awards.
The SIU Medical School commencement ceremony will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Sangamon Auditorium in Springfield.
