SIU announced Tuesday afternoon all undergraduate and graduate students with the exception of SIU School of Medicine and SIU School of Law, will have the option of requesting pass/fail grades for individual courses due to COVID-19.

SIU Interim Chancellor John Dunn sent an email out to SIU students saying the students will be given the option to see their letter grades first and then be able to opt-in for a Pass or Fail grade. Dunn said, "pass grades will not be calculated into student's GPA, but grades of pass or fail permitted in Spring 2020 in response to COVID-19 global pandemic will be included on transcripts."

Dunn said this isn't first this has been an option for the Carbondale campus. A similar action took place in 1970 when the campus was closed for three weeks early due to unrest associated with the Vietnam War.
